I was so excited the other day to come across the ‘original’ Gormley bollards in Bellenden Road, Peckham, South London! So I had to park the car up and take a couple of pics!
For those of you who perhaps do not know The Kennels at Goodwood may be wondering what on earth I am talking about! So here is a photo so you can remark on the twin sets.
The ones in Peckham are the originals, created by Gormley when he had his studio nearby. The cast-iron sculptures were commissioned by the local council as part of a regeneration project. They were based on simplified forms of an oval, a snowman, a peg and a penis. However, the council got cold feet, so the neighbourhood shopkeepers clubbed together to continue the commission. People still come from far and wide to see them – I wonder how many know that another set stands proudly outside The Kennels.
